Historic attractions There are 750 light houses along the shores of the United States. Two of them are located on the Long Beach peninsula – Cape Disappointment and North Head Lighthouse. Cape Disappointment was the first lighthouse built on the peninsula. Started in 1848, it was finally completed in 1856. The North Head Lighthouse was built in response to a marked increase in the number of shipwrecks along the Peninsula as mariners coming from the north could not see the Cape Disappointment light. Cape Disappointment is located in what was formerly called Fort Canby State park. There are also several museums and interpretive centers to explore. Lewis and Clark spent 18 days in Pacific County. Visit the Interpretive center located at Cape Disappointment State Park.
Create your own adventure Besides exploring the light houses and museums, there is a great variety of things to do in Long Beach. You can go kayaking, beach combing, horseback riding, bird watching, out on a fishing charter, clam digging and kite flying. You can also stroll along the Long Beach boardwalk or explore the new Discovery Trail.
Join the festivities at the Festivals There are celebrations held every month and every summer weekend.
